PC Scales CS-2255 Self-Service with Computer Vision
PC scales in self-service format with integrated computer vision camera for recognition of the product placed on the plate.
Dibal´s computer vision PC scales reduce shrinkage in self-service fruit and vegetable sections by more than 75%.
This innovative solution improves the shopping experience for supermarket customers, particularly seniors.
In the first months of 2024, the implementation of Dibal scales with computer vision was successfully completed in all Masymas supermarkets in Asturias and León. In this way, the Hijos de Luis Rodríguez chain of shops becomes the first to adopt this technology in its fruit and vegetable section in Spain.
Dibal´s computer vision scales provide important benefits for the shops, as they contribute to reducing shrinkage due to error or fraud in product selection by up to 76%, and considerably improve the customer´s experience in the selection and weighing of fruit and vegetables, helping to recognise the product to be weighed. Once the product is placed on the weighing pan, the scale takes less than 0.3 seconds to identify it and display it on the screen, even if it is inside a semi-transparent bag, even faster than the person.
The use of these scales is very simple: the customer must place the product on the scale, confirm it on the screen (the accuracy rate of the technology is up to 98%), print the label and place it on the bag of the product. When the product placed on the scale is totally unknown to the system, it displays the conventional screen, so that the customer can carry out the process in the traditional way.
‘Thinking about continuously improving the shopping experience of our customers through innovation, we have completed the implementation of scales with artificial vision in our supermarkets. This innovative solution facilitates and speeds up the shopping process in self-service format, as well as reducing wastage’, comments Santiago Pulgar, Sales Director of Hijos de Luis Rodríguez.
This weighing solution with integrated artificial vision, developed by Grabit, Dibal´s technological partner in the field of artificial vision, is currently available for scales with PC technology; and it is very easy to implement, only requiring the scale with integrated camera for product identification, the processing module (from the leader in AI, NVIDIA), the software based on deep learning, and internet connection windows for the correct maintenance of the model. After a short training and learning period in the shop, the scales are ready to work at full capacity.
At Dibal, we are convinced that our machine vision solution integrated in the scales will become a standard in the future, and we are already developing plans to implement this technology in five major supermarket chains in Spain, Portugal and Chile, as well as a pilot project in the UK.
