The company has been recognised in the ‘Companies’ category at the 8th Spanish Metrology Congress, which is currently taking place in Lleida.
DIBAL receives the Manuel Cadarso Award for Lifetime Achievement in Metrology

DIBAL has been awarded the Manuel Cadarso Award for Lifetime Achievement in Metrology, a recognition that honours the contribution and career of organisations and professionals to the development of metrology.
The award ceremony took place yesterday, 29 September, during the seminar held in the run-up to the 8th Spanish Metrology Congress, organised by the Spanish Metrology Centre (CEM) and taking place from 30 September to 2 October at the La Llotja Conference Centre in Lleida. DIBAL has received this award in the ‘Companies’ category, sharing the honour with the ‘Esteban Terradas’ National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA), a public research body under the Ministry of Defence.
Over 40 years’ involvement in applied metrology
This recognition is a source of great pride for DIBAL and highlights its track record spanning more than four decades of developing weighing, labelling and measurement systems for the retail and industrial sectors, particularly in the food industry.
Since its inception, DIBAL has evolved from electronic weighing systems to digital, connected and integrated solutions. Throughout its history, the company has developed capabilities spanning the design, manufacture, verification and certification of weighing instruments, with measurement accuracy, traceability and reliability as fundamental elements.
Metrology has therefore been an integral part of DIBAL’s activities for decades, both in the development of equipment that complies with European and international standards and in the processes designed to ensure the reliability of measurements. Among other resources, the company has a metrological laboratory accredited by ENAC for the calibration of equipment, as well as automated metrological verification systems.
Active involvement in metrological development
DIBAL’s contribution to metrology is not limited to product development. For many years, the company has played an active role in European and international forums relating to legal metrology and standardisation.
DIBAL is a member of CECIP (European Committee of Weighing Instrument Manufacturers) and participates in its Legal Metrology Group (LMG), helping to monitor and develop European metrology regulations. Professionals from the company also take part in working groups and technical committees involved in the drafting and revision of European standards.
This involvement also extends to the national level. DIBAL has been taking part in the Spanish Metrology Conferences since 1996 and has contributed to these events by presenting technical papers on various areas relating to measurement and its technological development.
Metrology as part of technological development
DIBAL’s evolution also reflects the transformation that metrology has undergone in recent decades. The company has developed solutions that integrate weighing with IT systems, management platforms and digital technologies, as well as printing, connectivity, automation and machine vision systems.
In the industrial sector, its weighing, control, sorting and labelling solutions enable measurement to be integrated into production processes, contributing to product compliance, traceability and the efficiency of production lines.
The scale of this activity is also reflected in the deployment of its equipment: according to data included in the nomination for the award, more than 50 per cent of weighing in Spanish supermarkets is carried out using DIBAL equipment.
A tribute to DIBAL’s entire history
For DIBAL, the Manuel Cadarso Award for Lifetime Achievement in Metrology represents recognition of the work carried out over more than 40 years by all those who have been part of the company and who have helped to promote precision, innovation and the application of metrology in commerce and industry.
This recognition also coincides with the 8th Spanish Metrology Congress, a leading event for the sector which brings together professionals, companies, organisations and institutions involved in measurement in Lleida.
We at DIBAL would like to thank the Spanish Centre for Metrology for this distinction and for its work in promoting the knowledge, development and application of metrology, as well as for highlighting its importance in industry, innovation and technological development.
